Great documentary
killer song
When I was 17 I sent a letter to Howard and asked for help and he answered me with a drawing called " Viking on roller skates" and a letter on how to mis paint ( I used signwriters titainium white) in a tube, add Japan dryer, load the grumbacher striping brush ( still have it ) that was the brush at the time. I used Mack and Grums, as we called them. Nothing else was offered back in the 50's, I'm 84 years old now and still stripe. It's a lost art now only a few left that still do it on a regular basis. I use one shot lettering paint now and with the wrap stuff offered and decals that will go away in the future. I was also taught by Tommy the Greek in his Oakland shop, he was the best line striper I have ever seen to date, he ws a great guy.
Bless your mom and dad. They paved the way for a lot of people including me. Mark Tennessee

THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Great interview! Thanks
I stopped by after continuing my quest for family history. I try to remember there were not that many people, cities, or towns around but, I have several over laps. I am related to the Earps on my mother’s maternal side. On an related to Johnny Ringo on my mother’s paternal side. To have them come to hate/dislike each other after having been in the same areas of Missouri with my other relation Jesse James seems crazy. Especially since we live so close to Tombstone today. I’m a believer in the golden ratio. Thanks for this information. Big Nose Kate is revered for her willingness to help others, even at the risk of her own life. Whore or not, she was a great woman and I am kind of sad she met my ancestor’s wife.
The torment and agony of the truly gifted....both ablessing and curse......

ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER!!!❤
This place, and this man, are true legends in the story of the American West. Don promoted the area to visitors, and his collection of vehicles gathered from hills, valleys and abandoned properties into one place, restoring alot of them beautifully is a story itself. R.I.P. Don, your work has not gone unnoticed.
Norman, you should do a story on Mattie Blaylock who is buried outside of Superior, AZ.
He was Hungarian and about as faithful to Doc as doc was to her she she lived till I think 1940
That thing was runnin 220 volts out in what year?! ... wild...
Hungarian. Well educated and nobody's fool.
being away from the woman he loved might have killed him but its not her fault, human beings can be very complicated, I wish he was alive
Very cool thank you👍

Very interesting -- I lived in Prescott for many many years and didn't know this !
i had the honor to work for and with Don in like 1989 to 91..I built 11 buildings there including the cute miner cabin w/porch just b4 u turn right into main parking lot..I'm told my ex gf Tammy still lives there even though she now owns over a hundred rental properties in Sedona..I was just online searching for any updates on his place and the region bout a year ago and surprised to see an obituary..And his wife Terry's..Don and I went on a lot of remote adventures..Engine rescues he called em..Once we went to Steins,NM A ghost town on I-10..He wanted to buy it and have Tammy and I run it..Tammy didn't like the idea out remote and miss her friends too much..Don and I done some wild things just the two of us.Steam engines from old power plants..hoisting old iron from 4-600ft deep shafts after I spent days underground rigging everything..we've move complete old house's from very precarious spots..we've used helicopters and several times Phoenix news stations sent crews to film like when I found a fairbanks Morse hot head diesel buried in bottom of a canyon..that took a lot of ingenuity just himband I..found an assayers safe in middle of prescott forest..all kinds of things..i ran the 1st telephone lines and system from jerome to my house and then Don's and the gift shop..I helped tap our water source from above the museum gravity fed all the way down a gorgeous overgrown canyon with poly pipe and tanks in strategic spots to increase the water pressure but requiring no pumps..it's still in use I'm told..I used to do dynamite demonstrations when we had to blast rock in the museum for a railroad trestle we hand built..I got many of the larger 10,000 cubic inch engines restored and mounted and running..I was the one that found the cave of local folklore fame of the old miner living in a cave by Haines..I've had tourists with tears in their eyes say' son, u have no idea how fortunate you are to live and do this kind of work all while tourists observe us..And of course I already knew that..lots of awesome memories for sure..Can't believe he's gone..I called him once bout dozen yrs back looking for some rare part or one I had I knew he needed..I've had a lot of one of a kind types of jobs or projects I'm always neck deep in..still do..anyone feel free to holler if questions or remember me..I'm Dan Wessels presently back in free IOWA..side note..i do remember now Don said he had cancer but gave me the impression it wasn't serious. he seldom left my sight or was gone or down from being sick..We were always busy doing something..I probably spent more time with him than his wife..lol..Probably why he died at 73
$10,000 in 1880 is worth approx $270,000 today

Oct 17 the History channel will show their production of a show called” Fully Torqued” about the Restoration of the Von Dutch bus in Phoenix, Az.
On Oct 17 th the History channel will air a show called “Fully Torqued” about the restoration of Von Dutch Bus. If you have an interest in the Kustom Kulture be sure to watch it.
Steve said his goal was to make it “as if Dutch had just stepped out for a smoke.” Well, I think you absolutely NAILED it. When Steve gave me a tour of the bus 5-6 years ago it was almost surreal and very much felt that way. I very much enjoyed the time with Steve and very grateful for the private tour, attention to detail in the restoration (even down to the cigarette butts) and the striping lesson. Thank you very much Steve!
The business of life is the acquisition of memories. Thanks for the memories, Juan and Angel.
I'm new still in Practicing mode I'll get there Hope I'm half as good as you guys
Great job as always.. why stop here?….
Dutch Ovens make me nostalgic
Awesome
Thanks Joe, they are coming this Friday to see the bus ,from the History channel, doing a story on Dutch.
@@stevekafka cool
Saw the bus while visiting many times at Dutch s place. I was a boy then from about 64 70. Dutch made me a single shot 22 for my birthday.
Hope you still have it…
